Metro Rail

The Dhaka Metro Rail, a fast-paced transit system, is currently being constructed in Dhaka, Bangladesh. Launched in 2016, the project aims to be completed by 2023, encompassing a total length of 21.26 km and boasting 17 stations along its route. Its purpose is to cater to the burgeoning population of Dhaka, offering a modern and dependable transportation solution.

Dhaka, facing substantial traffic congestion and air pollution due to rapid population growth and economic activity, eagerly anticipates the positive impact of the metro rail system. By easing traffic and reducing air pollution, the city is expected to become a more livable and sustainable environment.

The financing of this crucial project comes primarily from the Government of Bangladesh, with additional support from development partners such as the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) and the Asian Development Bank (ADB), amounting to an estimated cost of $2.8 billion.

Once operational, the Dhaka Metro Rail will comprise both elevated and underground sections, facilitating a capacity to transport up to 60,000 passengers per hour. Though the fare is yet to be announced, it is expected to be affordable for the general public.

The benefits of the Dhaka Metro Rail system are abundant. It will offer a safe and reliable means of transportation, particularly for those without private vehicles. Moreover, the project is anticipated to generate employment opportunities during its construction and operational phases, fostering economic growth and development for the city.

So, the Dhaka Metro Rail is an essential and much-needed project for Dhaka. It promises to deliver a modern and efficient transportation system, alleviate traffic congestion and air pollution, create employment opportunities, and contribute significantly to the city’s economic progress and advancement.
